What We Liked
Expandability that actually works. Here’s the thing about expansion ports on power stations — most of them are an afterthought. Not here. The AC200MAX was designed from the ground up to accept additional batteries. Plug in one or two B230 units (each adding 2048Wh), and you’ve got up to 6144Wh of capacity. The system treats it as one giant battery — no swapping, no managing multiple units, just more power.
2200W continuous output. That’s a 10% bump over the older AC200P, and it matters. 2200 watts will run a microwave while the coffee maker is brewing. It’ll run a hair dryer on medium. It’ll run most of what a normal household actually uses, just not all at once.
900W solar input. This is where the AC200MAX shines for off-grid use. With 900 watts of solar capacity, you can realistically recharge a fully depleted base unit in about 3-4 hours of good sun. Add batteries, add panels, and you’ve got a legitimate solar power system.
Two 100W USB-C ports. Running a modern laptop, phone, and tablet all from USB-C? The AC200MAX can charge all three at full speed simultaneously. That’s the kind of future-proofing that matters more every year.
Faster AC charging. 3 hours to full from a wall outlet is 33% faster than the AC200P. Still not the 60-minute charge times we see from some competitors, but respectable for this capacity.
What Could Be Better
The weight is real. 61.7 pounds for the base unit. Add batteries and you’re at 100+ pounds total. This is a “set it and forget it” system, not something you’re going to move around. The Pattersons’ bus has a dedicated compartment for theirs.
Four AC outlets (down from six). The AC200P had six outlets. The MAX has four. Why? Space for the expansion ports and USB-C upgrades. It’s a trade-off, and whether it’s the right one depends on how you use it.
Expansion batteries aren’t cheap. Each B230 runs about $1,500. Building out to full 8kWh capacity means spending around $4,700 total. That’s real money, even if you’re spreading it across multiple purchases.
Still no 240V. Like the AC200P, this maxes out at 120V. Need to run a well pump or 240V appliance? You’ll need to step up to the AC300 system.
